 I think everybody needs some type of spiritual and moral compass. Even those who doubt the existence of a god all seem to simply replace the traditional concept of a personified god with some other type or force or phenomenon. No living creature can doubt the laws of nature for very long and still survive, so at very least the natural laws of our universe are some form of god.
Where are the great philosophers of our day? Did the greats of ancient Greece make a living off of it? Were their works popular readings of the day? I don't know, but I wonder where today's philosophers are. Many certainly must be song writers. Are some of the self-help book authors among the greats? How about film writers? What makes us go home and ponder our life and the choices we make? What forces objectivity on upon ourselves? What is it that makes us want to be a better person?
